KIWANIS DOLLS

A PRECIOUS PSYCHOTHERAPEUTIC TOOL

Being sick and hospitalized is no fun for anyone, especially children. The Kiwanis rag doll helps them through these difficult times. For 25 years thousands of dolls have passed through the hands of little patients.

The challenge of the Kiwanis doll is to make it easier for children in the hospital to receive care.

Children who have to stay in the hospital for medical treatment are given a doll. This doll helps the child overcome their feelings of fear and uncertainty. It will accompany the child throughout the hospital stay and during the illness.

The doctor or nurse can explain to the child what will happen and how it will happen with the help of the doll.

The doll can be used quickly and interactively and knows how to capture children’s attention. Fear and uncertainty are minimized. The doll helps children make their own choices. Dolls “free” children from the turmoil, tensions, worries and problems they face. Excerpt from : “The magical power of dolls” Hubert Stuyvaert, ISBN 9789059325784

A MULTIFUNCTIONAL DOLL

It can be used to cut, suture, prick, bandage, plaster, operate, and can also be used to demonstrate a procedure and explain what will happen during a treatment, for example.

The doll has a neutral color and is thus a blank canvas on which anything can be done. The child can also personalize it and color, draw and decorate it to express his feelings. lf the child is allowed to go home, he takes the doll with him.

But there is more.

GLOBY, THE GAME ABOUT EMOTIONS WITH THE KIWANIS DOLL.

This game was designed by psychologists at the UZ Glorieux in Ronse to study children’s emotions. Questions about different emotions and questions about action are used to “talk” to the child during play.

A psychological and educational tool.
