SPECIAL OLYMPICS BELGIUM

SPECIAL OLYMPICS

Special Olympics is a worldwide organization whose goal is to promote the integration of mentally disabled people into our society through sports. Through compulsory training throughout the year, this person learns to master himself, to surpass himself.

Since its inception in Belgium in 1979, Special Olympics Belgium has been able to count on the support and assistance of the Kiwanians, both through the participation of volunteers and through financial assistance and sponsorship. In addition, the Kiwanians provide assistance in the form of equipment loans, sponsorship, supplies and direct assistance to sports clubs for people with intellectual disabilities.

Each year Special Olympics Belgium (www.specialolympics.be) organizes various events and meetings, culminating in the organization of the National Games, which traditionally take place on Ascension weekend.

Kiwanis’ support for the annual Games is primarily in three areas: volunteers, Kiwanisvillage(s) and financial support. There is also support in the form of equipment loans, sponsorship, supplies and direct support to sports clubs for people with intellectual disabilities, provided through Kiwanians or clubs.
